Without rocks, there would be no Grand Canyon or Yosemite, or a large percentage of buildings and roads. Following a brief introduction, The Rock Cycle looks at the three types of rocks (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic), the effects of “weathering” on rocks, and various forces that initiate change in the rock’s life cycle, including heat, pressure, and erosion. Combining great nature cinematography, relevant vocabulary (including granite, limestone, marble, shale, slate, lava, and magma), and illustrative graphics, this is a solid overview of one of the fundamental subjects in geology. In addition to a teacher’s guide and accompanying curriculum, the DVD also includes extras such as labeled slides, a glossary, and an iMovie project. Recommended. Aud: I, J. (E. Gieschen)
