Things in Motion

Designed and produced by former classroom science teachers, this is a no-nonsense approach to understanding the concept of motion. A variety of live-action videos illustrate the concepts of motion being explained by the female narrator. Students will relate to examples of force and friction in their everyday lives. The fast-paced production provides numerous transition points that lend themselves to pausing the video for discussion and review. After viewing, students should have an understanding of force, friction, inertia, velocity, acceleration, and other key concepts about motion. The head-on camera shots of many cars and trucks will date this production in years to come. The accompanying guide includes a pre- and post-test and student activity sheets. This unit of study would be an educationally sound addition to elementary science classrooms.
