Through quickly shifting visuals and clear voice-over narration, this well-organized program introduces common environmental concerns (pollution, extinction, vanishing resources) and possible solutions (recycling, sustainability, renewable energy). It explains that the environment encompasses both urban and natural settings, affected by interconnected factors. Global warming, for example, is a consequence of the burning of fossil fuels, and animal extinction can be linked to pollution, extensive hunting, and habitat destruction. The program admits there is disagreement concerning certain issues, including clearing wetlands and preserving natural habitats, but our everyday actions definitely have an effect on the health of our planet. Key terms are defined and captioned, and occasional “you decide” prompts and pauses encourage classroom discussion. A five-question video quiz reinforces concepts, and an extensive teachers’ guide is filled with worksheets, tests, and activities.
